The Stephen T. Balbach Foundation was established in August
2000 in partnership with Fidelity Charitable
Gift Fund. In 2010 the Foundation celebrated its 10th anniversary
having made over 200 donations to charitable causes around the world.
The Foundation believes that predictable annual donations help charities
better than one-time grants. To that end, the Foundations has a goal of
sending donations on a yearly basis for about 5 years in a row, after
which the 5-year blocks are re-evaluated for renewal, based on the
charities performance and Foundation goals. The Foundation is also
active in helping with one-time disaster relief such as the 2004 Indian
Ocean tsunami, 2005 hurricane Katrina, the 2010 Haiti Earthquake and
Pakistan Floods.
*What is the Foundations philosophy for giving?
The Stephen T. Balbach Foundation believes it is a civic duty to help
the community, but also understands that any act of charity is a
political act reflecting the values and goals of the giver. Why this
charity and not that one? Ultimately it is those who act who enact
change.
*What are the Foundation goals?
The foundation has a long-term goal of at least 30 years thus it aims to
preserve and build capital while creating a legacy of giving.
