Egyptian riots and the scowl
___________________________________________________
This picture sums up the Egyptian riots. Here were see a clash of old
and new: the camel rider with Nike shoes; the timeless camel and
(unseen) modern tanks in the background. More significantly is the
"angry scowl", the modus operandi among Egyptian rioters; and
what creature better symbolizes the scowl than a bleating camel.
Finally, the image debunks the myth of rioters being under-30, that it's
just been youthful rebellion. And as I my friend Baskin pointed out
no women! [Ed. except probably the camel, she-camels are usually
used for riding]. All in all, a great photo.
